Makale’s talk 2018 – for strength of youth pamphlet
- Good afternoon brothers and sisters, this October 2018 general conference was so special. I couldn’t help but notice, many of the talks mentioned the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints being a “family centered gospel.” Therefore, I was inspired to cover the family portion of the for strength of youth pamphlet. A paragraph I like in this section says “Be cheerful, helpful, and considerate of family members. Honor your parents by showing love and respect for them. Strengthen your relationships with your brothers and sisters. Prepare now to fulfill your divine roles as a husband or wife and as a parent.”
For those of you who don’t know, I have a pretty large family and it amazes me how much I learn from each of my siblings. My mom and dad have taught me the importance of being a hard worker. It takes effort and endurance to get desired results and it’s not always a positive outcome, but we should never give up and we can lean on our family for support. This week I have been very faithful at work and worked everyday. It’s not easy sacrificing my time doing something I don’t particularly enjoy and having homework weighing on me that needs to get done. However, it all pays off in the end when that paycheck comes in the mail.
I can relate this to my family in multiple aspects. In the beginning, I know that family council every Sunday morning is necessary, but do I like waking up early after a late Saturday night– not really. The prophet in this most recent general conference said: “as each family follows through conscientiously and carefully to transform their home into a sanctuary of faith, I promise that as you diligently work to remodel your home into a center of gospel learning, over time your Sabbath days will truly be a delight” We must be faithful, when it comes to a happy home and family. It’s not always easy to see, but after we trust in our parents, with faith, we will have the spirit with us and it will pay off.
I have learned that when you spend time with your family, your relationships will strengthen and your siblings become your most loyal best friends. When I was young Gage and I were very competitive, and I did not like playing with him. Most races or basketball one on one drills ended with a Dub for Gage and a big fat L for me. However, now him and I get along great. This is simply because of much sacrifice, heartfelt prays, and many hours in the gym, so that I can now take the Dubs and put Gage in place.
I love my family so much and I know heavenly father sent me to them on purpose. M. Russell Ballard said: “ What matters most is what lasts longest, and our families are for eternity.” My heart is full of gratitude because the eternal plan promises me that I will be able to spend eternity with my best friends. I love this promised blessing and the strength in our home, that comes from the spirit, when we are faithful. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
